About Us


Goals and Purpose


Centre for Poverty Reduction and Community Development C-PORCDEV former Extended Hand Incorporated EHIis a non-government, not for profit making Community Based Organization dedicated to the promotion of human life and dignity in the rural areas of Nigeria. C-PORCDEV was established in June 1998, registered as an Incorporated Trustees with registration number CAC/IT/NO 25166 in Corporate Affairs Commission Abuja – Nigeria under Incorporated Trustees’ law of Company and Allied Matter Act (CAMA) of 1990, chapter 59 part-A in 18th September, 2007.

C-PORCDEV has its head office at Ngor Okpala, Imo State. C-PORCDEV has four paidofficers and four unpaid volunteers, which serve to hold down overhead cost. C-PORCDEV regards the conscientisation and organization of the poor as basic precondition for their work. It considers powerlessness to be one of the main causes of poverty. Therefore empowerment of the poor especially in alliance with other groups gives them a voice, lowers their vulnerability and enhances their social and economic resources.

C-PORCDEV is currently undergoing registration with the United Nations Consultative Status with Economic and Social Council.

Centre for poverty Reduction and Community Development C-PORCDEV wish to see lives of the rural dwellers in Nigeria promoted and dignified.

OBJECTIVES OF C-PORCDEV

  • To fill the vacancy created by dis-involvement of Local, State and Federal Government by implementing community projects for the rural world.
  • Encouraging self-dependency as a tool for development thereby minimizing poverty in the rural dwellers.
  • Developing the skills of rural people in biodiversity, climate change, renewable energy and land degradation.
  • Empowerment of economically less deprived sections of the rural communities.
  • The organization of the poor for their active participation in social, political and economic development.
  • Promoting good governance and combating corruption in the Local, State and Federal Level.


C-PORCDEV ACHIEVES THESE OBJECTIVES THROUGH:

  • Engaging in direct and indirect labour for community development
  • Local, State and Federal Government Budget Monitoring.
  • Establishment of food processing plants in the rural communities.
  • Carrying out campaign, training and implementing projects onbiodiversity, climate change, renewable energy and land degradation in the rural communities aimed at encouraging growth and sustainable development among the rural dwellers.


PRINCIPAL SOURCES OF FUNDING:

C-PORCDEV former EHI is funded through grants from charitable foundation and funds, for instance, C-PORCDEV had previously secured and acquitted funding from Special Self Help Fund (SSHF) of the American Embassy, Department for International Development Nigeria (DFIDN), Manos Unidas Spain; Direct Aid Programme DAP, of the Australian High Commission, Australian Aid (AusAID) Irish Aid of the Irish Embassy, Swiss Agency for Cooperation (SDC), Embassy of Switzerland, Abuja – Nigeria and Global Environmental Facility GEF – Small Grant Programme of the United Nations Development Programme UNDP/GEF-SGP. It also raises money from members’ contribution and donations.
